Nematode extraction chamber

This method uses the movement and settling behavior of nematodes. When (infected) soil/plant material (samples) is placed in water, the nematodes crawl out and sink. Samples are placed in extraction sieves, which are fitted with a filter and collection cup below. This setup is placed under a mist generator. The constant fine mist prevents oxygen deficiency.

The accumulation of plant sap, decomposition products, and microorganisms is avoided because they are flushed away with the overflowing water. Nematodes in the sample are carried with the water and collected in the cup under the filter for further examination.

Operation

The extraction chamber contains 2 spray bars, each with 36 mist generators. This gives a total of 72 mist generators for 72 sieves. The spray bars can be used together or independently. The bottom of the chamber is a large collection tray for mist that doesn’t land on the sieves. Thanks to its conical shape, the water is immediately drained. Four positioning plates are placed in the tray with fixed positions for the sieves to ensure they remain directly under the mist nozzles.

Mist that misses the sieves is collected in the tray and drained via a hose.

The extraction cabinet also has 2 “anti-drip” sliding doors to keep the mist inside.
