Customisation on request

What do we mean by custom solutions on request?
Custom solutions on request is a broad concept. At its core, it concerns automation solutions that cannot simply be ordered from a catalog. Sometimes a laboratory comes to us with a very specific challenge: a manual step that is time-consuming, prone to errors, or simply no longer fits the desired level of quality. For these types of questions, there is often no off-the-shelf product available.
In other cases, customization involves modifications to an existing system. For example, you may already be working with one of our solutions, but your process deviates slightly from the “standard” way of working. This can raise questions such as: can this be done differently, more intelligently, or better aligned with how we operate? This too falls under custom solutions on request.
The starting point is always the same: your process leads the way. We adapt the technology to it, not the other way around.
From customer question to concrete solution
Many of our custom solutions originate from conversations with customers. Sometimes such a trajectory starts very practically, for example with a demonstration of an existing system. During these discussions, additional questions often arise: could this also work for our specific application? Can this process be automated? What possibilities do you see?
These types of questions often form the starting point of a customization project. In other cases, the request is immediately clear: a laboratory has a unique process it wants to automate, without any existing product available for that purpose. In those situations as well, we are happy to get involved.
An important advantage for you is that we are not limited to a single niche or fixed application area. Automation is a discipline in its own right. The principles behind robotics, control systems, vision systems, and process integration are largely the same across many sectors. Whether it involves moving Petri dishes, processing samples, or an entirely different operation, we look at the logic of the process and translate it into a reliable technical solution.
What does a typical customization trajectory look like?
Although no two projects are exactly the same, custom solutions on request usually follow a number of recognizable steps:
- Initial contact and introduction – The process almost always starts with a conversation. This may be prompted by existing interest, a demonstration, or a concrete question. At this stage, the focus is primarily on listening: what do you do, what challenges do you face, and what would you like to improve?
- Process inventory – Together, we map out your workflow. Which steps are manual, where do bottlenecks arise, and what are the boundary conditions? Consider factors such as space, capacity, accuracy, safety, and integration with existing systems.
- Exploration of possibilities – Based on this inventory, we assess what is technically feasible. This can result in multiple solution paths, ranging from minor adjustments to a completely new automation concept.
- Development or prototyping phase – Depending on the complexity, a prototype may be developed or a test setup created first. This gives you early insight into how the solution works and allows any necessary adjustments to be made in a timely manner.
- Realization and delivery – After alignment and any further optimization, the solution is realized and installed at your site. Of course, we also support commissioning, so you can start using the solution effectively right away.
This phased approach keeps the project manageable and ensures that you maintain control over both functionality and expectations.

What makes our custom solutions different from standard solutions?
The biggest difference lies in flexibility and involvement. Large suppliers often work from a fixed product portfolio. If your question does not fit within that framework, the conversation usually ends there. We deliberately choose a different approach.
As a relatively compact and specialized organization, we are able to truly embrace custom requests. We are not bound by rigid product lines, but instead assess what is needed on a case-by-case basis. This means that we also develop solutions that are implemented for only one or a few customers, as long as they deliver real value for you.
In addition, we have many years of hands-on experience in laboratory automation. This expertise ensures that customization does not become “experimentation,” but rather a well-considered translation of proven technologies into a new application. Sometimes such a solution later evolves into a more broadly applicable system; sometimes it remains a unique installation. Both are perfectly fine, as long as the customer’s problem is solved.
Who is custom solutions on request suitable for?
Custom solutions on request are particularly interesting for organizations that:
- work with unique or highly customized processes;
- run up against the limitations of standard solutions;
- want to increase quality, reproducibility, and efficiency;
- are willing to collaboratively explore the best technical implementation.
Whether it concerns a small optimization or a completely new automation concept, customization always starts with a good conversation.
